Hairy Woodpecker

Hairy Woodpecker is a woodpecker that lives in North America. It is a carnivore that eat bugs, but unlike many that eat bugs on the ground, it uses its beak to peck holes into trees to retrieve bugs. Its skull is designed to withstand the blows from its head banging against the tree. It is also creates its home in the tree and lays its eggs inside the tree. It is capable of climbing the tree without slipping, because its claws allow it to grip on to the tree.  Woodpeckers do go south for the winter. They spend there winters searching bugs that hide in trees just as if it is warm out.
